Koh Samui

Koh Samui

Koh Samui is Thailand's third largest island located off the east coast of the country in the warm waters of the Gulf of Thailand. It is surrounded by 80 smaller islands including the Ang Thong National Marine Park.

The island was originally used for coconut farming so there are plenty of coconut palms fringing beaches and covering hillsides. There are no high rises which makes the flight into Koh Samui International Airport absolutely beautiful.

Up till recently the island was off the beaten track but now more and more tourists are going since the establishment of their own airport in 1989. The types of accommodation are wide ranging from budget bungalows to up-market trendy resorts with in-house five star Spas for the ultimate pampering.

There is much more to Koh Samui than just beaches, bungalows and palm trees. Venture out and view the waterfalls, temples and buffalo fighting or try diving around Koh Nang Yuan and Koh Tao. There are many Animal and Insect parks on the island plus sporting options such as Go Karting, Jet Skiing, Mini Golf, a Shooting Range and the Bungy Catapult.

Chaweng Beach is the longest beach and is now becoming the most popular for tourists to relax and stay in the many beach front bungalows. Other beaches like Lamai and the beaches of Koh Toa, an island about 1 hour away from Koh Samui, are highly recommended.
