I am not sure why but I love the village style atmosphere of restaurants and boutique resorts along the river leading north to the infamous River Kwai Bridge from main Kanchanaburi city centre.

The 'Bridge over the River Kwai' is still used for regular scheduled daily trains however in between those arrival and departure times there is an affordable tourist train that crosses the bridge. For those more adventurous, you can easily walk across the bridge with multiple single person walkways built within the structure.

On the eastern side of the bridge you will find the main tourist area with restaurants and a large number of jewelry businesses including a large jewelry market.

The destination is only 90 minutes by car from Bangkok.
