Backpackers

Thailand is very suited to backpackers. It is hot, cheap and a friendly nation of people.

There are no real backpacker style resorts in Thailand, but I would say a fan room would be the equivalent. Expect to pay around 300 Baht for a fan room on average.

Backpackers obviously should pack at least as possible. Wear cotton underwear and shirts if possible. Sandals like Teva Trekking Sandals are ideal for comfortable walking. Think about buying new cheap tee shirts while traveling around in Thailand which could be just as cheap and as washing your old one.

Make sure you also pack a key lock, small torch and a travel guide to Thailand.

In Bangkok, most international backpackers hang out and meet up at Khao San Road. Expect to find food hawkers, guest houses, nightclubs, hair beaders, clothes retailers, bars, souvenir sellers, travel agencies and pirated cd's and dvd's along the road. Quickest way there is by Tuk Tuk, costing around 50 - 200 Baht depending on your position in Bangkok. Many of the cities major Temples and Palaces are also near Khao San Road.
