My partner and I are lniivg in Chiang Mai for a few months, and you can't turn around without bumping into a temple. Unfortunately Chiang Mai is up in the north of the country far from the beaches, so you might find you spend too much time sitting on a train if you're only here for ten day. Bangkok is very nice, but as a sightseeing place it doesn't top the list. Check out a few temples in BKK then head south for the beaches.
