Songkran Water Festival (National) Featured
Songkran celebrates that start of the agricultural season or Thai New Year and is a must see and do for any traveler wanting to join the local Thai people and travelers celebrate.
The epicenter of celebration is around Koh Sahn Road in Bangkok.
Lasting over three days from April 13 every year is the world biggest water fight where by everyone involved sprays water over each other as a sign of good of a good harvest to come later in the year. Popular with kids and adults alike, be prepared to be drenched in water if you go out. Best to be dressed for the beach and not to take any camera that is not at least splash proof.
A word or warning: Many people die each in Thailand during Songkran namely due to alcohol intoxication and vehicle movements. Therefore, try to participate away from the roads if possible. Such a family based festival, most of the population will try venture back home to be with the family.
